The interactive map below shows our current prediction for the stellar occultation by (617) Patroclus on 2021 June 9 UT. The prediction is based on a Gaia DR2 position for the star and the v20181130000959 orbit estimate for Patroclus.
Patroclus is part of a binary, but we have not plotted both components yet. The ground-track will be updated before the event.
Geocentric mid-time of the event is 14:57:35 UT. Star position is RA 15:40:52.1, Dec -28:58:00 (J2000), and its magnitude is 14.22. Patroclus is moving at 16 km/s with respect to the star and its diameter is estimated to be 127 km, so central chords are expected to last 7.9 seconds. Patroclus' magnitude is predicted to be 15.2 at event time, so it will be 2.5 times fainter than the star.
