Polymele was named after the mother of Patroclus, and wife of Menoetius from Homers Illiad. The encounter insignia for Polymele displays a lyre, as the word polymele is associated with harmony, with its direct derivation from Ancient Greek meaning 'many songs', derived from 'polys' for many, and 'melos' for songs.
